Renovated ‘Laguna’ condo has a ‘modern, fresh look’

Meticulously renovated, the bright and sunny ground-floor condo at 1570 S. 42nd Circle, Unit 7, in the charming Laguna of Vero Beach neighborhood, is ready for you to move right in. This like-new, 3-2 condo in a great neighborhood will certainly delight you.

With a design that makes thoughtful use of space, and a sophisticated and extensive renovation by the owners Lazaro and Odalys Alfonso, this handsome condo is a real gem, in a private yet conveniently located subdivision.

The Alfonsos share one reason why they fell in love with the community: “After driving through the security gates at the main entrance, you find Laguna’s beautiful club house, which has two billiard tables, a comfortable TV sitting room, tables for meetings and a bar/counter with many amenities” – as well as the pool area and poolside shelter, BBQ, spacious exercise room, racquetball court and two tennis courts.

“The best part of Laguna, though, is our neighbors,” says Lazaro Alfonso. “Shortly after purchasing the condo, I met the two neighbors from upstairs who happen to be seasonal longtime owners. They told me how much they enjoy owning in Laguna and how much I would enjoy the short drive to the many great restaurants, shopping and the beaches.”

Entering the front door of the Alfonsos’ condo, you step into the spacious dining room/living room and open kitchen. With white ceiling and walls and a floor of sand-hued tile, perfectly punctuated with pops of charcoal and brown, the home has a subtle uptown Manhattan vibe – thanks in large part to Odalys Alfonso, who made most of the renovation design choices.

Immediately eye-catching is the elegant dining room lighting – a classy line of five white globe pendants with silver tops, at alternating lengths, only one of the several modern lighting fixtures Odalys selected during the renovation.

In the living room, one of the home’s four sleek Hunter fan/lights supplements the wealth of clear ambient illumination flowing though sliding glass doors, which open to the screened porch and offer a pleasant view of lawn and landscape.

The screen porch will make the perfect spot for morning coffee and crosswords, reading, dozing, conversation and evening cocktails.

Another eye-catching element (one of Odalys Alfonso’s clever ideas) is the new door from the dining room/living room into the master suite: It is the sliding “barndoor” style, striking with white wood and black hardware across the top.

The L-shaped granite kitchen counter opens the kitchen to living and dining room spaces, allowing conversation and ease of serving, a very convenient flow for entertaining. And, with sliders open to the screen porch, there is even more entertaining space.

The kitchen renovation includes simple, clean white cabinets and crisp white subway tile splash; Samsung stainless-and-black, smooth-top electric range and built-in microwave; a large, side-by-side stainless Maytag fridge with bottom freezer drawer; and a new dishwasher. Just off the kitchen is a neat and tidy laundry room closet with space-saving stacked washer/dryer. Here, Odalys replaced the original bi-fold door (which intruded on kitchen space) with a sliding door.

Down a hall past the kitchen, the guest suite houses two bedrooms, with a shared a bathroom. The larger of the two, originally the master bedroom, is wide open to the hall because the owner prior to the Alfonsos required wheelchair access. The original door can easily be replaced if new owners wish. Or the room could be transformed into a spacious den, library, TV room or fitness room. The bath features a full-size tub/shower.

On the other side of the home, the owner’s suite features two linen closets, with shelving. The bedroom also has plenty of closet space and sliding glass door access to the screened porch. The modern, renovated bathroom has a gray wood vanity with white countertop, long rectangular white basin and white-framed mirror; along with a big, beautiful glass-front shower with white tile and decorative multi-hued tile border – one of Lazaro Alfonso’s favorite updates.

The Alfonsos say they hope their numerous upgrades and improvements “give the space a modern, fresh look.”

Mission accomplished.

Graced throughout by oak, myrtle and palm, Laguna’s beautiful landscaping is very well-maintained. Homes circle a long central lake; as does a broad swath of emerald lawn sloping to the shoreline and a sidewalk – perfect for exercise, with or without the family pooch (up to 50 pounds).
