Storm Grove student positive; 19 to quarantine

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A Storm Grove Middle School student tested positive for COVID-19, prompting school officials to place 18 other students on a two-week quarantine Friday, authorities said.

This is the 16th incident at traditional Indian River County schools where students were told to quarantine after COVID-19 cases were reported. To date, 258 students and four staff members at the traditional campuses have been placed on two-week quarantines since the start of the school year.

This is the first COVID-19 case reported at Storm Grove Middle School. Florida Department of Health identified 18 other students who came in close contact with the pupil with a positive test, according to the School District of Indian River County.

School officials called the families of the students and told them the children will need to stay home and monitor their symptoms. The student with a positive test was also instructed to quarantine at home, officials said.

All Storm Grove Middle School families and staff members were notified of the incident. The students placed on quarantine will continue school through virtual learning, officials said.

Custodial services continue to disinfect and sanitize all areas of the campus to prevent the spread of the virus.
