ST. LUCIE COUNTY —  Troopers were searching for a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that ejected a Vero Beach man from his truck early Monday, officials said.

The unidentified man, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. Florida Highway Patrol is no longer releasing the names of people involved in crashes because of privacy reasons.

Troopers said the hit-and-run vehicle was possibly a dark colored Sedan with damage to its right passenger side.

The two-vehicle wreck involving the pickup truck and Sedan happened about 5 a.m. Monday on Interstate 95 southbound, just south of St. Lucie West Boulevard, troopers said. The Sedan was traveling behind the truck in the left lane near mile marker 121 in Port St. Lucie.

Troopers said the Sedan, traveling at high speed, exited the left lane and went onto the shoulder to avoid hitting the truck. The Sedan tried to travel back into the left lane and struck the left front of the pickup.

The collision pushed both vehicles across all three southbound lanes and off the roadway to the right, troopers said.

Troopers said the Sedan traveled back onto the interstate and continued heading southbound, leaving the scene. The pickup truck overturned as it left the roadway, ejecting and killing the driver, troopers said.

Troopers said the truck driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. Details on the driver of the Sedan were not available.

Anyone with information on the crash should contact Florida Highway Patrol at 954-242-3340.
