Mother, child hurt in late Thurs rollover crash

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A mother was seriously hurt and her child had minor injuries in a rollover crash late Thursday that closed the roadway for about three hours, authorities said.

The single-vehicle wreck involving a maroon Ford happened about 9 p.m. Thursday at 66th Avenue Southwest and 13th Street Southwest in south county, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The 30-year-old mother lost control of the vehicle with her 11-year-old son in a passenger seat, FHP spokesman Lt. Yanko Reyes said.

The woman and boy, both from Vero Beach, were taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Roger Dion said.

Dion said the mother had possible internal injuries. The child had a minor injury to his arm, Dion said.

Troopers reopened the roadway about midnight, Reyes said. Highway troopers are investigating the cause of the crash.
