Virginia W. Rogers, 91, Sebastian

Virginia W. Rogers, 91, of Sebastian, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family on Aug. 9, 2020.

Virginia was born and raised in Fort Pierce and lived in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for over 25 years. Virginia started her 40 plus year career with Southern Bell as an operator at age 16 and worked her way up through the company’s ranks until her retirement. She was a hard worker and faced life with a stubborn determination, providing a strong role model for her daughter, granddaughters, and even great-granddaughter.

Virginia loved Florida and had no desire to live anywhere else. She retired to Sebastian in 1995, where she cultivated a jungle-like backyard overflowing with plants, palm trees, and enchanting lawn ornaments. She enjoyed garage sales and shopping, but found more joy in sending the treasures to friends and family. She hosted many a family gathering, where her famous potato salad and coleslaw recipes were particular favorites.

Virginia is survived by her son, John Thomas Gideon and his wife Anne Gideon; daughter, Theresa Gideon Cousens; grandchildren, Joshua Erik Gideon and his wife Emily Gideon, Jacob Matthew Gideon and his wife Sarah Gideon, Virginia Clara Cousens, and Brandon Paul Cousens; granddaughter-in-law Meg Miller; great-grandchildren, John-Thomas Theodore Gideon and his wife Rachel Gideon, Stewart Cronin Gideon, Emmett Dupree Gideon, Elise Cathron Gideon, Gage Matthew Gideon, and Cole Matthew Gideon; and her grand-dog Charlie Brown.

She is predeceased in death by her mother, Rhoda Vickers Wright; sister, Lillian Marie Wright; and granddaughter, Stefani Denise Gideon.

Virginia was very loved and will be dearly missed!
