INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An older couple was displaced after a fire ignited inside their home late Wednesday, fire rescue crews said.

The pair were not home and were visiting their daughter when the blaze started, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Roger Dion said. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded about 6 p.m. Wednesday to a blaze at the single family residence in the 4200 block of 41st Street, not far from Dodgertown Elementary School. Crews arrived and saw flames billowing from the home.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze about 10 p.m. The fire left heavy damage to the home, leaving it uninhabitable, Dion said.

Indian River County deputies were also on scene and advised motorists to avoid the area. Authorities closed 41st Street near the home until the fire was out, Dion said.

The couple will be staying with family in the meantime, Dion said. The state fire marshal’s office will investigate the cause of the blaze.
