In Memory: May 14

William L. Myers, 88, Fellsmere

William L. “Bill” Myers, 88, Fellsmere, originally from Mattoon, Ill., passed peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2020.

He joins his wife, Rosemary “Rosie” (Prahl) Myers, of 61 years of marriage, and his  daughter Melinda “Lyn” (Myers) Smith, as well as his parents Evelyn (Hardin) & J Nelson Myers, and sister, Marilyn Myers.

He is survived by his sister, Patricia (Newell) Lechifflard, of Vero Beach; children, David N. Myers, of Mattoon Ill., Lisa G. Myers, and Billi Rose (Myers), & “Bob” Ramsey, both of Vero Beach; including 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Mary Frances Sipes.

Bill served in the United States Army National Guard and was a trained medic.

He was a certified semi truck driver for many years, then worked 27 years at Piper Aircraft, volunteered on IRC Sheriff’s Dept. Auxiliary, and served 10 years as a Corrections Officer where he was deemed a Hero for saving an inmate’s life. He served under the four different Sheriffs in his time there.

His hobbies included making people laugh at every turn.  He loved his family, airboats, and was one of the founding members of the Indian River County Airboat Assn.  He was an avid handyman and was able to do just about anything.  He built his own home with the help of his son and many awesome friends.

In these latter years he enjoyed helping others, sipping coffee and socializing at Café Latte Da in Sebastian and keeping a smile on as many faces as possible.  One of his best jokes was how he spent 10 years in jail… LOL

He was an awesome son, brother, uncle, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.  He will be sorely missed by his family, and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday May 24, at his home 126 S. Pine St., Fellsmere.  It will be held outside from 12-4 with no particular agenda due to Covid19.  It will be more of a visitation than service and you may come anytime in those hours to honor him.
