INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An 83-year-old woman on a motorized scooter was seriously hurt in a two-vehicle crash that briefly blocked the roadway Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

This is the second serious crash involving a vehicle and a bicycle or scooter to happen this week.

The crash involving the eastbound scooter and a white Chevy sports utility vehicle happened about 12:45 p.m. Saturday on State Road 60 in the Pointe West community, according to deputies and highway patrol. The woman was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Joe Kovaleski said.

The woman has serious, but non-life threatening injuries, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Yanko Reyes said. No other injuries were reported.

Authorities closed several eastbound lanes after the wreck; the roads have since reopened, Reyes said. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office and highway troopers will investigate the cause of the crash.

No further details were available.
