Bicyclist airlifted after collision in Indian River Shores

A bicyclist struck on A1A in Indian River Shores Saturday afternoon was airlifted to an area trauma center.

A pickup truck making a U-turn around 3:30 p.m. in the 8300 block of A1A struck the bicyclist. No details were immediately released pertaining to the cyclist nor the truck driver, other than the cyclist is male.

According to authorities, the cyclist was in the bike lane when the collision occurred, according to Indian River Shores Public Safety Director Rich Rosell.

He was conscious and was first transported to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital with moderate injuries. However, staff at the hospital had the patient airlifted to an area trauma center for treatment.

Indian River Shores Public Safety and Indian River Fire Rescue responded to the crash, which was then turned over to the Florida Highway Patrol for investigation.
