Deputies arrested Ciera Alisa Francis, of the 1800 block of 38th Place, Vero Beach, on charges of aggravated assault and displaying a weapon on school property. Francis was held Tuesday at the Indian River County Jail without bond.

Francis got into an argument with the man about 7:40 a.m. Tuesday at Citrus Elementary, 2771 4th Street, Vero Beach, Indian River County sheriff’s Lt. Thom Raulen said. Francis and the man both have a child in common, Raulen said.

The woman pulled out a knife, walked toward the man and threatened him, Raulen said. Raulen said the man was not hurt.

The school principal and a teacher saw the incident, which happened outside near a Head Start classroom, School District of Indian River County spokeswoman Cristen Maddux said. School officials contacted law enforcement about the altercation, which happened before classes started.

Francis was trespassed from the school and then arrested by deputies, Maddux said. Deputies booked Francis into the county jail.

It was unclear if deputies recovered the knife. School officials notified parents through a phone call about the incident, Maddux said.
