Deputies said Ashley Chanelle Sears slashed the man several times, leaving him with long cuts on his left arm and back and smaller cuts on his neck. The man was taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital for treatment, reports show.

This was not the first incident involving Sears and the man. Deputies noted Sears was previously charged with battery, burglary with battery and aggravated assault, along with being ordered to not have any contact with the man, reports show.

It was unclear what prompted the most recent attack.

Saturday, deputies arrested Sears, of the 100 block of Empress Avenue, Sebastian, on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and violation of no contact order. Sears was held Monday at the Indian River County Jail without bond.

Indian River County deputies responded to reports of a stabbing about 5 a.m. Saturday. The incident happened in a business parking lot in the 3000 block of 45th Street, reports show.

Deputies went to 44th Place, where a woman told them “her boyfriend was repeatedly stabbed by his baby mother,” authorities said. The baby mother – identified as Sears – took the weapon with her as she fled the scene in her vehicle, reports show.

The man and his girlfriend went home and contacted law enforcement. Sears denied stabbing or having any contact with the man, reports show.

Deputies arrested Sears and took her to the county jail. Sears has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. March 6, court records show.
