Richard Carver, 63, Vero Beach

Richard Carver, 63, of Vero Beach, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Richard is formerly from Baldwin, Pa.

He was a proud 40-year member of Steamfitter Local Union #449. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and a huge football fan.

Rich will be remembered by all who knew him as a person full of love and laughter.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of nine years, Laura Carver; his son, Brian Smouse; two brothers, John M. (Janice) Carver, III, and James (Sharon) Carver; and a sister.  Rich will be sadly missed by nieces, nephews and friends.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, John M. Carver, Jr. and Jean R. Carver.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 26, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, 1950 20th St., Vero Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Jan. 27, at Noon at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.  Burial will be private.

Georgina Chunka, 77, Sebastian

Georgina Chunka, 77, of Sebastian, passed away on Jan. 20, 2020, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s. Georgina was born on April 16, 1942, to Anton and Franziska Landgraf in Union City, N.J.

She relocated to the Town of Manlius, N.Y., a suburb of Syracuse, in 1973 and remained there for 37 years while raising her family. During that time, she was employed at the Corporate Headquarters of Agway for 17 years and then at Syracuse University Radiology.

For the last eight years she was in retirement living in Sebastian.

Georgina was beloved for her radiant spirit and joyful effect on all those that had the pleasure to meet her. She was a devoted wife and mother but she especially cherished being a grandmother and great-grandmother with the designation of “Mom Mom” surpassing all the titles she held in life.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Chunka; her brother, Anton (Maureen) Landgraf; her two daughters, Donna (Steve) Carson, Denise (Bill) Slusser; her five grandchildren, Shelby, Taylor, Matthew, Mackenzie, Samantha; her two great-grandchildren, TJ and Carson; and many nieces and nephews.

Georgina is predeceased by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson’s Foundation at Parkinson.org.  The family requests that all notes/cards be sent to their home.

A date is being arranged for a Memorial Mass at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Barefoot Bay, Fla. A reception will be held at Capt’n Butcher’s restaurant immediately following the mass.
