Vero Beach ties daily heat record

VERO BEACH — The city tied yet another daily heat record Friday as the temperature climbed to a summer-like 86 degrees with sunny skies, weather forecasters said.

The temperature for Friday beat the previous daily record of 86 degrees, set Jan. 3, 2017, National Weather Service in Melbourne officials said. Meteorologists said the temperature will likely not change during the day.

The tied-record comes after one of the hottest years for the city. In 2019, Vero Beach had an average temperature of 75.2 degrees, making it the third-warmest year the city has seen.

Vero Beach also broke daily heat and rainfall records in September and October 2019, officials said. The weather records for Vero Beach date back to 1942.

But, the Instagram-perfect weather conditions could give way to possible showers and a cold front in the next few days, weather officials report.

A 70 percent chance of rain was expected for Saturday, forecasters said. Saturday will be mostly cloudy with a high temperature near 82 degrees, officials said.

Saturday night’s low temperature could drop to a chilly 50 degrees. Sunday through Wednesday will have high temperatures in the 60s and 70s and low temperatures in the 40s and 50s, forecasters said.

Winds were expected to be between 5 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
