Light-filled Bermuda Bay house is an ‘outstanding value’

No detail was overlooked in the creation of the casually elegant home located at 112 Hidden Oak Dr. in Bermuda Bay – from the shiplap walls to the tongue-and-groove, vaulted ceilings and other high-quality finishes. “When I built the house, I built it around my father’s paintings. I had to have a lot of walls, but I wanted windows, too,” notes the owner. “I love light.”

Architect Matthew Gore worked closely with her to design a home filled with light.

It’s evident from the moment you step through the front door that Gore was able to make her vision a reality. The entry opens into an enfilade – a series of doorways to connecting rooms arranged so that there is one uninterrupted sightline. In this case, it is a gallery of sorts but one infused with natural light, helped along by the east-to-west exposure.

The infusion of light was accomplished through an open concept with two great rooms: one formal and one informal. The first, adjacent to the dining room, shares the space overlooking the backyard through a series of French doors mirroring the placement of the gallery entry archways. Beautiful, durable, oak floors add warmth to the pristine whites of the interior along with the gas fireplace and wallpaper.

The second great room sits off the gourmet kitchen where the family gathers at the island countertop for snacks, homework or conversation over breakfast before work or school.

Two bedrooms are in the northern wing of the house. The luminous master suite opens onto the pool deck through French doors. Behind the doors of the master suite, the bathroom beckons with luxurious promise. A soaking tub anchors the room, along with a walk-in shower, water closet, vanity and his and her walk-in closets. The owner designed all the bedrooms.

To counter the low-key interior in the house proper, the owner had fun in the guest bathrooms, adding color, unique fixtures and tile designs with everything from a honeycomb design on the floor to inlaid tile and a dramatic black and white design.

Two additional bedrooms share the southern section of the house, just off the kitchen. Guests can tiptoe out for a midnight snack, lounge on the patio or catch a show in the family room without disturbing their hosts.

The laundry room, garage access and a “sand room” are all convenient to the kitchen. With three active daughters in the house when it was built, storage space adjacent to a bench shelf just off the laundry room was a must.

The house flows well from one room to the next, especially for entertaining, points out Peggy Hewett, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Realtor. “From the family room, you’re always part of whatever is going on.”

With a powder room located just off the communal areas, the wet bar in the kitchen, and covered dining area poolside, there’s no end to the possibilities. Whether it’s a formal soiree, a family gathering or a house full of children – this house can accommodate the festivities.

The lushly landscaped backyard is an oasis of privacy, whether you’re entertaining or enjoying a quiet respite. The property backs up to a dead-end street in the adjacent community of John’s Island where all you hear are crickets and frogs sending out warnings of birds foraging for a snack.

“I can’t say enough about the neighborhood. There’s a real sense of community,” says the owner, noting she’ll miss things like the community newsletter, book club, monthly get-togethers and holiday parties.

A bonus, says Hewett, are the amenities. “The clubhouse was recently renovated. You have a pool and tennis courts. Then across the way, a renovated beach pavilion with his and her changing areas and parking.” In addition to that, she notes the convenience of the Village Shops and proximity to Wabasso and Barber bridges. “The location is wonderful.”

“Everyone who walks through the door is mesmerized. This rare island gem offers all the modern conveniences of newer construction and such great, outstanding value,” adds Hewett.

Bermuda Bay is a guard-gated community located in Indian River Shores. Community amenities include a heated pool, tennis courts, clubhouse and deeded beach access. Just outside the gates of Bermuda Bay, the Indian River Shores Public Safety Department offers police, fire and emergency medical services, and the Village Shops and beach are only a short walk away. It’s only a few minutes’ drive to reach Ocean Drive shopping and dining, Riverside Park, Riverside Theatre and the Vero Beach Museum of Art.
