Space Coast Divas provide ‘A Grand Night of Opera’ in the afternoon

Sopranos Mary Anne Kruger and Amy Cofield both live in Brevard County. Separately, they have enjoyed international careers as opera singers. Together– they are the Space Coast Divas. And on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 3 p.m., the duo will present A Grand Night of Opera at First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach, 520 Royal Palm Boulevard, 32960.

Ms. Kruger has spent most of her career in Europe singing well over 40 glorious roles such as Madama Butterfly and Salome.

Ms. Cofield has likewise performed in the U.S., Europe and Asia, often being sought for Violetta, the lead role in Verdi’s La Traviata.

As Space Coast Divas, the pair will present A Grand Night of Opera, featuring the works of Puccini, Verdi, Bellini, Gounod and other master composers of the form. Accompanied by pianist Jean Black, the singers will perform a range of works from the world of opera, from the mesmerizing bel canto of Norma to the heart-breaking drama of Tosca.

The audience will be sure to recognize the “Flower Duet” from Lakmé and several works used in popular films.

No tickets are required for A Grand Night of Opera and admission is free. A donation of $20 is suggested.

Mary Anne Kruger and Amy Cofield are frequent performers with the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, the sponsor for A Grand Night of Opera.

Mary Anne Kruger speaks to the duo’s love of the art form and the accessibility of the music.

“Opera is in our blood,” said Ms. Kruger. “It’s simply part of who we are.  Opera singers perform with their whole bodies and whole hearts as musicians, actors and instrument all rolled into one.” She continued, “People who think the music is sure to be exotic or unfamiliar will be pleasantly surprised by many of the tunes in our program!  The Lakmé is especially popular as the backdrop to an airline commercial and many Puccini works are used in films.”
