Vero Lago home is ‘out of the way but close to everything’

Nestled among conservation and stormwater areas, with a golf course to the north, Vero Lago sits at the intersection of 53rd Street and 58th Avenue. Surrounded by green space, the community feels like it is miles from anywhere, but is actually just a short drive away from Publix Plaza on U.S. 1 and close to downtown and the beach.

“It is its own kind of island,” said Berkshire Hathaway Home Services listing agent Craig Parham. “It’s out of the way but close to everything.”

It was that type of community that appealed to the former residents and current owners of the three-bedroom, two-bath, 1,613-square-foot home at 4408 56th Lane in the subdivision, according to Parham.

The couple selling the house came to Vero from Colorado, seeking a warmer climate. They liked the location and minimal carrying costs of the Vero Lago home but knew it was just a temporary stop. They ultimately wanted to buy on the barrier island – and now have made that purchase after selling their home in Colorado.

56th Lane is set back from the road and lush with landscaping dotted with purple and coral flowers. The front porch offers a screened alcove and a blue seahorse-shaped doorknocker on the red front door that hints at the personality found within.

The entryway opens into the spacious family/dining room combo. Off the living room is the screened and covered back patio, which overlooks a heavily wooded preservation area that separates Vero Lago from Bent Pine Golf Course. The yard is fenced and the patio is equipped with a large doggy door that can be secured.

Parham said the preservation area is home to at least one bobcat, which is spotted by neighbors from time to time.

Through the living room is a roomy kitchen that serves as the hub of the house. It features granite countertops, a large pantry, and an island complete with sink. The stylish black appliances convey with the property.

Opposite the kitchen is the laundry room and the first of two spare bedrooms. Prior owners removed the wall that created the bedroom closet but the next owners could easily re-convert the space as it was originally intended, Parham said. Or, they could leave it as is and use the room as a home office, gym or a den.

At the front of the house is the other guest bedroom, large enough for a queen bedroom set and outfitted with a built-in mantel perfect for displaying photos and knickknacks.

Near this guest bedroom is a hall bath as well as the exit to the garage, which has an epoxy finished floor as well as an insulated door.

The master bedroom is quite spacious and has a generous walk-in closet. The en suite is outfitted with a single vanity and a shower/tub enclosure. The vaulted ceiling in the master suite lends the space a larger feel.

Vero Lago is a Mediterranean-inspired community started in 2005 by Centex, which built nearly half the community before the Great Recession hit in 2008. After that, Tapestry Homes took over construction, completing the development in 2018 with a total of 525 homes. It has two gated entrances, one off 58th Avenue and the other off 53rd Street.

From the home on 56th Lane, it is a short walk to the community center, where residents can make use of the community pool, tennis courts, clubhouse, fitness center, and even a small playground.

Parham, who is a resident of Vero Lago, said he’s found the community to be family-friendly, well run and professionally managed. He added that the lots feel very private, even though there are neighbors, one of the features that led him to buy a home in the subdivision.

Another plus, the HOA takes care of the lawn and landscaping. “You leave and everything outside is taken care of,” Parham said.

According to Parham, seasonal residents already are drifting back into town, some looking to buy a permanent place.

“These won’t last,” he said of houses like the one on 56th Lane that are priced in the low $200s. “It’s hard to find a decent place in a good community” at a better price.

Parham has scheduled an open house for the property on Sunday, Nov. 10, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
