The woman, identified as Cheryl Ann Hamill, told deputies, “I just wanted him to leave me alone,” reports show. The man told deputies Hamill previously threatened to kill him and burn his house down; it was unclear if Hamill was charged in the past incident.

When deputies asked Hamill why she was holding the knife, she said she was using it to make dinner, reports show. Deputies asked Hamill how she was making soup with a kitchen knife, and then she changed her story.

Deputies arrested Hamill, of the 7800 block of 8th Street, on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Hamill was released Friday from the Indian River County Jail on $3,500 bond.

Indian River County deputies responded to a disturbance about 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Hamill’s home. Hamill told deputies she was making soup earlier when her boyfriend came home.

The two got into an argument about his whereabouts, deputies said. The man said Hamill began throwing things around the house.

The man said Hamill ran into a room. When the man went to check on her, he saw Hamill carrying a large white kitchen knife, reports show.

Hamill raised the knife over her head and charged at the man, deputies said. The man said he ran out of the home and into a shed in the backyard.

Deputies found the knife in a bedroom.

Deputies arrested Hamill and took her to the county jail. Hamill has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. Dec. 6, court records show.
