Man seriously hurt in dirt bike collision with car

GIFFORD — A 22-year-old dirt bike driver was seriously hurt after his bike collided with a car Saturday evening, fire rescue crews said.

The crash happened at 7:15 p.m. Saturday in the 4600 block of 43rd Court, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief David Kiernan said. The driver of the dirt bike, a man, suffered serious injuries to his lower left leg, Kiernan said.

The man was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Kiernan said. Two people who were in the car refused treatment.

An update on the man’s condition Sunday was not available. It was unclear which agency would be investigating the wreck.
