Kiwanis Club Vero-Treasure Coas hosts annual awards, installation dinner

The Kiwanis Club of Vero-Treasure Coast held its annual awards and installation dinner on Wednesday, October 2nd at CJ Cannon’s.  Jim Wolfe was named Kiwanian of the Year for his dedicated efforts in leading the Kiwanis “Take a Kid Fishing” tournament and fellow member Greg Holtan was named Kiwanis Key Member.  Holtan coordinates the Kiwanis Aktion Club in Indian River County which involves hundreds of participants.

Outgoing Kiwanis President Richard Schlitt was recognized for his leadership during the past year.  Club membership has increased and the Club instituted a new strategic plan in 2018-2019.  Schlitt along with fellow Kiwanis member Al Sammartino, has led the highly successful Kiwanis Youth in Action Program which engages high school students in community service projects.  Schlitt has also been involved in organizing donations to residents in the Bahamas.

During the program, Jessica Kelly, Teacher Advisor for Indian River Charter High School Key Club and Stacie Lembcke, Teacher Advisor for Vero Beach High School Key Club were thanked and praised for helping students at the schools participate in community service projects.  This year Kiwanis will also start a Key Club at Sebastian River High School.

The Kiwanis Club also installed new board members and officers.  New board members include Kevin Brown, Bob Marshbanks, Carolyn MacEvoy, Richard Schlitt, Tom McCauley, Jeff Meyer, Doug Vitunac, Mara Wicklund, Matt Hamilton, and Tom Maher.  New club officers include Tom Maher, President; Carolyn MacEvoy, President Elect; Doug Vitunac, Vice President; Kevin Brown, Treasurer; Bob Marshbanks, Secretary; and Richard Schlitt, Past President.
