VERO BEACH — No one was injured when a construction crane overturned, striking the back porch of a home on Dolphin Drive in the Central Vero Beach community referred to as “The Fingers” Thursday morning.
Vero Beach Police spokesman Cpl. Darrell Rivers said the crane’s operator was setting a piling for a dock when it struck an uninstalled septic tank on a vacant lot. The collision caused the crane to flip onto its side, hitting the house next door.
Cpl. Rivers said the damage is estimated at about $50,000.
Arthur Rutenberg Homes is constructing a new home at 13 Dolphin Drive, where the dock was being installed by Schopke & Maguire.
Vero Beach Police, Indian River Fire Rescue and the County Building Inspector responded to the scene.
