Popular Amalfi model in Pointe West is full of upgrades

Tall kitchen cabinets. Granite counters. Venetian blinds. Tile floors. Screened lanai. Stainless appliances. The list of upgrades Margo and Jack Katzman made over the past two years to their home at 1385 Bunker Court in East Village in Pointe West goes on and on.

“This is scary for us,” Margo Katzman said, looking over a printout of the upgrades they made. In all, they installed nearly $41,000 worth of improvements to their house, which they had built in 2017.

Gutters, extra ceiling fans and a stone walkway from the driveway to the lanai are a couple more of the add-ons.

The Katzmans expected their 1385 Bunker Court house in Pointe West’s East Village to be their home for years to come. Instead, they discovered that the time is right to find another home in the Vero Beach area. They love the house and the community – but the avid golfers want a different course to tackle, they said.

The four-bedroom house features volume ceilings throughout and tiled floors with a split floor plan. Three bedrooms are situated near the front of the house, while the large master bedroom is at the rear.

The bedrooms have provided ample sleeping space when family comes to visit, including the Katzmans’ daughter and three grandchildren.

“This is the boys’ room,” Margo said, opening the door to the office/guest room. The room serves as the home office when “the boys” aren’t here for a visit.

Both the hall and master bathrooms, along with the kitchen, have granite countertops and upgraded faucets and hardware.

The bathrooms also were upgraded with elevated toilets.

“We really live in our living room,” Margo said. Bright light cascades in through large windows and the space is large enough to fit several recliners and a sofa.

Jack Katzman noted that the original layout called for the dining room to be where they set up the living room – but that didn’t make sense to them. The next owners, however, might feel differently and change it back.

“What we like is the openness,” he said of the layout, which allows for the modifications based on what furniture is placed where.

The kitchen itself is large and features stainless appliances and a gas range. A pantry is conveniently located across from the refrigerator and a bar provides eat-in dining and easy entertaining. A breakfast nook off the kitchen offers a more casual dining experience opposite the formal dining space.

Off the kitchen is the laundry room, equipped with a gas-powered clothes dryer as well as a utility sink. The room even has space for additional storage. The laundry room is just a step or two from the 2-car garage, which has extra space to accommodate a golf cart as well as storage.

“We fell in love with the master bedroom,” Margo said, coming to her oasis during a tour of the house.

The generous walk-in closet is almost its own room and has ample space for both Margo’s and Jack’s wardrobes. The master bath originally was built with a soaker tub, but the Katzmans decided they’d rather use that space for a walk-in shower. The small step-in shower opposite the tub has since been repurposed as a linen closet. The bath also has a water closet, providing for privacy when both residents need to make use of the facilities. Berkshire Hathaway Home Services listing agent Chip Landers noted that the Katzmans have the most popular of the D.R. Horton floor plans in East Village – the Amalfi, which is known for its wide-open space and generous bedrooms.

The Katzmans, from New England, discovered Pointe West after having wintered for a few years on the barrier island.

“We’re not beach people,” Jack said. The first time they visited, they rented for 30 days. The second year, 60 days. And, between years three and four, they decided it was time to build.

They knew they didn’t want to go to South Florida – too congested. After exploring between Vero and Delray Beach, they decided Vero Beach was the place to be.

“Vero Beach is a real community,” Margo said, adding that they were drawn to the fact that the city has a vibrant theater and arts museum, and no shortage of shopping and dining venues.

Their agent showed them homes in Pointe West, and they were smitten with the golf course and the ability to buy new for what it would cost to renovate an older home in the community.

“We were very specific with what we wanted,” Jack said.

But after building and upgrading everything as they desired, the Katzmans have decided to move on in search of their next home.
