Officers said Roman was driving the golf cart westbound across the crosswalk about 2 p.m. Tuesday at S.R. A1A and John’s Island Drive. The driver of a white Lexus sedan, 77-year-old Beverly Hipkins, was traveling northbound when her vehicle crashed into the golf cart.

The wreck flipped the cart on its side and ejected Roman, officers said. Roman was flown to the hospital in Fort Pierce; Hipkins was not hurt, officers said.

Officers said Hipkins failed to stop for a red traffic light. It was unclear if charges were expected in the incident.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
