MelBeach woman accused in fatal crash now faces felony burglary, drug charges

A 20-year-old Melbourne Beach woman arrested earlier this year and charged in the death of an Orlando woman has been arrested in a separate incident on multiple charges including felony burglary and drug possession.

According to a police report from the Melbourne Police Department, on June 30, Kyah Muntz and another individual attempted to unlawfully gain access to a Melbourne residence through a back door and a garage door.

A person inside the home called police, and when the responding officer arrived he observed two individuals in the backyard and ordered them to approach him. They fled the scene on foot and the officer gave chase, eventually apprehending Muntz, who was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center for ankle pain and then transported to the Brevard County Jail.

The current charges include four felonies – two for burglary and two for drug possession – as well as multiple misdemeanors including giving false name or identification to a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer without violence.

According to the arrest affidavit, at the time of the arrest Muntz was on felony probation for drug possession in another case.

She was also out on bond after being charged in the death of 23-year-old Kavika Church of Orlando for which Muntz faces charges that include two felonies – DUI Manslaughter and DUI with Serious Bodily Injury. Investigators claim she caused a deadly crash in the early-morning hours of Dec. 14, 2018, on State Road A1A near the intersection of Sabal Ridge Lane, just south of the town of Melbourne Beach, killing Church and injuring 28-year-old Grant Luker of Orlando and 21-year-old Katlyn Duncan of Tampa.

Lab results indicated Muntz’s blood alcohol level was above the legal limit allowed to operate a vehicle and she tested positive for cannabinoids, according to court documents.

Muntz remains in the Brevard County Jail without bond. Her next hearing is scheduled for Aug. 15.
