Man seriously hurt after vehicle strikes light pole

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A man was seriously hurt after his vehicle – carrying a woman and three children inside – struck a light pole Thursday evening, fire rescue crews said.

Indian River County Fire Rescue crews responded to the single-vehicle wreck about 5:30 p.m. Thursday at 6th Avenue and 20th Street, Battalion Chief Kyle Kofke said. The driver – a man – was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Kofke said.

The woman and three children were taken by ambulance to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital as a precaution, Kofke said. The woman and children had no obvious injuries and went to the hospital just to be checked out.
