Police: Man with gun flees after stealing cash, phones from Boost Mobile

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Police were searching for a man who wore a black Chicago Bulls hat with a camouflage front while brandishing a gun during a robbery Wednesday at a Boost Mobile store.

Police said the armed man stole an undisclosed amount of cash and several cell phones. No injuries were reported in the case, police said.

The store owner was working to get surveillance footage of the incident. The video will be released once Vero Beach police Chief David Currey approves it, spokesman Master Police Officer Darrell Rivers said.

Rivers said the unidentified man walked in the store about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, located at 1950 44th Avenue, just south of State Road 60 and east of Walmart. The man pulled out a black semi-automatic hand gun before ordering the owner – the only person inside – to the back of the business.

The man then took money from a register and several high-priced cell phones, Rivers said. Officers think the man fled the scene in a vehicle.

Police put up crime scene tape at the store entrance shortly after arriving on scene. Officers could be seen talking to the store owner inside the business.

Several Indian River County sheriff’s vehicles were patrolling the area. Rivers said the suspect is described as a black man, about 25 years old, 5-feet 11-inches and weighing about 170 pounds.

He was last seen wearing white camouflage shorts, a white T-shirt and a dark-colored shirt underneath. It was unclear if the incident was related to any other thefts or robberies in the county.

No further details were immediately available.
