Deputies investigating near Gifford Docks

GIFFORD — Deputies are investigating near the Gifford Docks Friday after receiving tips that evidence from a crime that may have occurred more than a decade ago might be in the area, officials said.

Several Indian River County patrol vehicles, including a crime scene van, could be seen near the dock area about noon Friday. Crime scene tape could be seen at the dock near the Indian River Lagoon, located off Gifford Dock Road and 45th Street.

The Medical Examiners Office said they had not been notified of any deaths Friday out of Indian River County. A line of traffic cones blocked the entrance to the dock.

Man charged in stabbing woman, requiring surgery

VERO BEACH — A 34-year-old man was jailed after a beating and stabbing that left a woman with severe injuries requiring surgery earlier this week, officers said. Police reviewed surveillance footage and described the incident as a vicious, unprovoked attack. "After speaking with medical staff, it was reported that (the victim) received treatment for four lacerations to the lower intestines, two lacerations to the colon and the removal of her spleen," Vero Beach police said in a report. SEBASTIAN — Sheriff's detectives arrested a Sebastian police volunteer after they searched his home and found dozens of images depicting child pornography on a flash drive he owned, officials said.
