Man seriously hurt after vehicle slams into palm tree

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A man in his 20’s was seriously hurt after his Honda sports utility vehicle struck a palm tree, fire rescue crews said.

The single-vehicle wreck happened about 10 a.m. Monday in the 6000 block of Atlantic Boulevard, near 58th Avenue and College Lane, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Kyle Kofke said. The driver was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce with serious injuries, Kofke said.

There were no other occupants inside the SUV, Kofke said.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the cause of the crash. No further details were immediately available.
