Corrections deputy charged with DUI

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 22-year-old corrections deputy suspected of being intoxicated while driving a black pickup hitched to a trailer with a vessel on top, was arrested last month, reports show.

The man – identified as John Christopher Green Jr. – admitted to authorities he drunk several alcoholic beverages earlier while out on a vessel with his friends, reports show. Officials said Green had a blood alcohol content level of .106; the legal limit to drive is 0.08.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers arrested Green on a charge of driving under the influence. Green was released May 12 from the Indian River County Jail on $500 bond.

State law prohibits the release of Green’s booking photo and address because he is a law enforcement officer. It was unclear if Green was still employed at the sheriff’s office.

An Indian River County deputy conducted a traffic stop on Green’s Toyota truck about 11 p.m. May 11 near 66th Avenue and 37th Street. An FWC officer pulled over to help the deputy as an impartial third party, reports show.

The FWC officer spoke with Green, who smelled of alcohol. The officer performed a field sobriety test on Green, who showed signs he was intoxicated, reports show.

The officer arrested Green and took him to the county jail. Green has an arraignment at 8:30 a.m. July 15, court records show.

Typically, in such cases involving deputies, an internal affairs review is also set in motion. It was not immediately known if an investigation was underway in Green’s case.
