COPS: Father fired gun during SWAT stand-off

For hours, residents near a home in the 800 block of SW Duncan Terrace in Cashmere Cove waited for the all-clear to return to their homes.

A man had barricaded himself inside the home after allegedly assaulting his teenaged son and threatening the boy’s mother with a gun.

The Port St. Lucie Police Department’s SWAT team responded to the home shortly before 11 p.m. on May 29. A crisis negotiation team was also called out and helped the man peacefully surrender, according to police.

The man, identified as Casey Fick, 40, was taken into custody without further incident. No one was reported injured during the standoff.

The incident started earlier, when Fick physically assaulted his 15-year-old son, police said. The boy, who sustained minor injuries, contacted his mother, who then arrived at the home. Upon her arrival, according to police, Fick armed himself with a .40-caliber handgun and is accused of pointing it at the woman’s face.

She and the teenager were able to leave the home safely and notified police. Police then arrived and called Fick on the phone. During their conversation, police said, Fick fired three rounds inside the home and barricaded himself inside.

How SWAT and the crisis negotiators were able to convince Fick to surrender was not released.

Fick remains in the county jail in lieu of $190,750 bond. He faces numerous pending charges that include the following: Commit domestic battery by strangulation, Aggravated battery – cause bodily harm/disability, two counts Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, Battery – touch/strike, two counts Possession of weapon/ammo by convicted Florida felon, Cocaine possession with intent to sell/manufacture/deliver, two counts Marijuana possession over 20 grams, Marijuana possession with intent to sell/manufacture/deliver, Possession of drugs with intent to sell, and Possession/use of drug equipment.
