Man struck, killed by car on S.R. 60

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 50-year-old Fort Pierce man died early Monday after he walked into the path of an oncoming vehicle on State Road 60 and was struck, fire rescue officials said.

Highway troopers identified the man as Christopher James Frey. The wreck briefly closed a portion of the roadway.

The collision happened about 5 a.m. Monday, said Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Kyle Kofke and sheriff’s officials. A Mercedes-Benz C250, driven by 55-year-old Jodi Michelle Lloyd, of Vero Beach, was traveling westbound on S.R. 60 in the outside lane, west of 102nd Avenue.

Troopers said the man was walking southbound across the westbound lanes on S.R. 60 when he was struck.  Fire rescue crews pronounced the man dead at the scene, Kofke said. Lloyd refused treatment.

Officials closed the westbound lanes on S.R. 60 from 102nd Avenue to 146th Avenue. All lanes reopened by 10:30 a.m., according to the FHP traffic site.

The investigation remains ongoing.
