The woman said she had no way to get in touch with her son, Julio Cuervo, who was her main caretaker, reports show. The Motel 6 manager and others paid for the woman to stay longer and arranged for her to have free meals at an adjacent IHOP restaurant, authorities said.

Deputies arrested Cuervo, of Ocala, on a charge of simple neglect of the elderly or disabled. Cuervo was held Wednesday at the Indian River County Jail on $3,500 bond.

Indian River County deputies were called to the motel Dec. 31, 2018. The motel is located in the 8800 block of 20th Street.

The manager told deputies the woman and her son, Cuervo, checked into the hotel a few days prior. The manager said she went to their room and found the woman had been left there, and Cuervo had not been back to check on her, reports show.

Emergency responders took the woman to the Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital. The woman told deputies Cuervo had sold her home and then brought her to the motel, reports show.

Deputies arrested Cuervo and took him to the county jail. Cuervo has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. June 7, court records show.
