INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A local elementary school recently named as a “school of enrichment” will deliver accelerated classes and extended lessons for selected students, officials said.

Beachland Elementary School will pilot the daily program for the 2019-2020 school year for first and second-grade students, officials said. Students will learn about robotics, real-world problem solving activities and other intellectual exercises.

The program will also include third and fourth graders for the 2020-2021 school year, officials said. Fifth-grade students will be added in 2021.

The school already has a strong focus on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM), officials said. Officials said the school advisory team, including parents, teachers, non-instructional staff and community members, provided input to help shape the program.

“The school’s mission is to increase student achievement for all students. Beachland continues to focus on STEAM, through working with community partnerships, such as the Vero Beach Museum of Art and The Learning Alliance,” Principal Dr. Colleen Lord said in a statement. “The new, expanded emphasis on enrichment will have an overall impact on the school community, providing additional experiences for all students.”

Beachland Elementary is located at 3350 Indian River Drive East.
