One dead after being thrown from vehicle on I-95 NB

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A person went into cardiac arrest and died after being thrown from a vehicle in a crash early Friday on northbound Interstate 95, fire rescue crews said.

This is the second serious crash to happen in the county this week.

The single-vehicle rollover happened about 7 a.m. Friday on northbound I-95, near the 147 mile marker, according to Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Kyle Kofke and the Florida Highway Patrol traffic map. One person was thrown from the vehicle.

The person went into cardiac arrest while being taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Kofke said. Doctors at the hospital pronounced the individual dead, Kofke said.

The second person who was in the vehicle declined treatment. Highway troopers are investigating the cause of the crash.
