VERO BEACH — Interim city attorney Kira Honse resigned Monday from the position as a firm continues the search for a new attorney and city manager, officials said.
Honse’s resignation is effective May 17, Vero Beach City Councilmember Laura Moss said. Honse pursued another job opportunity outside of the city.
Honse was named interim city attorney at a January council meeting following the retirement of Wayne Coment, the previous attorney, officials said. Before that, Honse was acting as assistant city attorney, Moss said.
“We’re thankful that she agreed to stay until the middle of May to give us time to secure services for another attorney,” Moss said Tuesday.
The search firm Colin Baenziger & Associates continues to seek out candidates to fill the empty slots for the city attorney and manager positions. Moss said the firm assured the city it would have a suitable candidate for the attorney position before May 17.
The numbers for the costs of the searches will be in excess of $20,000, said city manger Jim O’Connor, who retires Friday. The interim city manger for the time being is Public Works Director Monte Falls.
