FELLSMERE — A 25-year-old man was arrested last week after police said he engaged in sexual acts with an underage girl on several occasions.

Thursday, police arrested Marcos Cano Reyes, who lives on Sonrise Square, on a charge of lewd and lascivious battery. Reyes was held Sunday at the Indian River County Jail on $100,000 bond.
Fellsmere police began investigating the claims of illicit sexual contact last week. The victim, who was 13 years old, told officers she “dated” Reyes since July 2018, reports show.
Reyes admitted to police he was sexually involved with the teen. Under Florida law, anyone age 17 or younger can not legally consent to sexual activity.
When the victim’s mother confronted Reyes about the acts on Thursday, he offered her money in exchange to not call the police, reports show.
Police arrested Reyes and took him to the county jail. Reyes has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. April 12, court records show.
