Kolter has big plans for ‘Verano South’

Kolter Homes has been steadily preparing to extend the PGA Village/Verano community onto 2,300 acres of agricultural land south of the C-24 Canal.

Long-term plans for the “Verano South” project call for the construction of 6,000 new homes on the former groves and pastures between Crosstown Parkway and Glades Cutoff Road.

The Port St. Lucie City Council is reviewing a zoning change on March 11 that would set the stage for the construction of 200 new homes on 96 acres in Verano South. The council gave preliminary approval on Feb. 25.

The council has rezoned five other agricultural tracts in Verano South since August 2017, city records show. The six zoning changes will allow 2,266 houses on a total of 882 acres.

Kolter Homes plans to build a gated-community geared for homeowners age 55 and older with a large pickleball center and social and fitness centers as part of Verano South.

The plans also include a 46,000-square-foot Publix Supermarket, another 800,000 of commercial space and 100,000 square feet of office space.

So far, 763 houses have been completed on the 432-acre tract north of the C-24 Canal, city records show. Plans call for a total of 1,200 houses north of the canal.
