The woman – identified as Celena Marie Lamonda – told officers she left the scene because she was “scared and just wanted to get home,” reports show. A woman and her two children who were in the house during the crash were not hurt.

Police arrested Lamonda, of the 800 block of Dempsey Avenue, on charges of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and battery. Lamonda was released Tuesday from the Indian River County Jail on $2,000 bond.

Police responded to reports of a vehicle striking a home about 11:40 p.m. Monday in the 800 block of Barber Street, Sebastian. The homeowner told police she went in her son’s bedroom and saw a large hole open to the outside.

Officers saw large amounts of debris from the home and from the vehicle scattered throughout the backyard, reports show. The home’s extensive damage led authorities to contact Red Cross South Florida Region, which helped the family find shelter for the night.

Details on estimates in damage to the residence were not available.

Officers located the vehicle involved in the incident at a home seven blocks north of the crash. Police noted the gray Honda accord had heavy damage to the front passenger side, white transfer paint from the house and had pieces of drywall and insulation on the vehicle and on the ground, reports show.

Officers spoke with a woman, later identified as Lamonda, who said she was driving the vehicle and that her boyfriend was a passenger. Lamonda said she and her boyfriend got in an argument before she lost control of the Honda, drove through a ditch and then crashed into the home, reports show.

Lamonda hit and scratched the boyfriend in the face while driving, police said.

Lamonda was arrested and taken to the county jail. An arraignment date for Lamonda was not immediately available.
