Man hurt after SUV strikes tree

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A man in his 50’s was hurt after he possibly suffered a medical condition and crashed his sports utility vehicle into a tree Tuesday, fire rescue crews said.

The single-vehicle collision involving a Toyota Highlander happened about 6 p.m. Tuesday in front of the Indian River County Supervisor of Elections Office, 4375 43rd Avenue, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Kyle Kofke said. The man drove off the roadway, struck a sign and then a tree.

The man was taken by ground to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce with traumatic injuries, Kofke said. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision.

Further details on the crash were not immediately available.
