Deputies – Man beaten at home over marijuana

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Two men were arrested last week after they broke into the home of another man, beat him and tried to take his marijuana, deputies said.

One of the suspects – Marvin Naphier, 22 – asked the victim, “What you got?” before pointing a BB gun at him, authorities said. Deputies who responded to the scene found the cannabis and other drug paraphernalia in the victim’s apartment, reports show.

A woman who was riding with Naphier and the second suspect -Tyler Adams, 20 – before the incident told deputies they “wanted to get some marijuana,” and decided to get it from the victim, reports show.

Deputies arrested Naphier and Adams, of the 6600 block of 58th Avenue, on charges of burglary, aggravated assault and battery. Both men were held Tuesday at the Indian River County Jail without bond.

Naphier’s address was not available.

Naphier’s girlfriend knocked on the door about midnight Dec. 27 at the apartment in the 400 block of 12th Road.

When she began to walk back to the vehicle, Naphier and Adams started to kick in the door, reports show.

The victim ran upstairs and grabbed a bat, reports show. Naphier and Adams ran upstairs and began to argue with the victim.

The victim said Naphier grabbed an unloaded BB gun that was on the dresser and pointed it at the victim’s face, reports show. Naphier pulled the trigger twice, but nothing happened.

Naphier and Adams began to beat the victim, authorities said. The victim was able to flee from the residence.

The victim returned a short time later and noticed his phone and BB gun were missing, reports show. Deputies responded to the scene about 2:30 a.m. and saw the victim bloodied with multiple cuts and bruises.

Deputies arrested Naphier and Adams and took them to the county jail. Both men have arraignments at 8:45 a.m. Feb. 15, court records show.
