Gold Star Grove dedication highlights Veterans Day event

The sounds of bagpipes and bugles filled the air as the community gathered on Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary on the eve of the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, commemorated by Veterans Day to honor military veterans with a moving tribute that included all the pomp and circumstances due their valiant service.

The children of fallen soldiers were on hand for the dedication of a Gold Star Grove, a startling reminder that our service men and women often make the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation.

Keynote speaker Lt. Gen. Eric B. Schoomaker, U.S. Army Ret., reflected that the connection of veterans remains strong because of their common mission.

“We swear allegiance to the constitution and the ideas of that constitution. We work for something that is far bigger than we are.”
