In Memoriam: Oct. 11 – 12

Frederick L. Miller, 90, Vero Beach

Frederick L. Miller, 90, died Oct. 7, 2018, peacefully at his home in Vero Beach following a short illness. Fred was born on Sept. 1, 1928, to Olive and Fredrick Miller of Fremont, Ohio.

Having lost his parents at age three, Fred was loving raised by his maternal aunt and grandmother – Mary and Augusta Bell. After graduating from Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio, he joined the US Army Infantry, serving with distinction with The American Occupation Force in Japan.

Following military service, Fred returned to Toledo where he became a lifelong resident.

A graduate of The University of Toledo, Fred met and married his wife of 66 years – Ruth Crockett.

In retirement Fred and his wife, Ruth, moved to Vero Beach.

Partnering with his father-in-law, James Crockett, Fred and Jim built a successful insurance agency.

Serving on The University of Toledo Athletic Association Board of Directors, Fred was an avid sportsman and supporter of The University. As President of the Toledo District Golf Association, Fred worked to grow the game he so loved.

A 60-year member of The Trinity Episcopal Church of Toledo, Ohio, Fred served as Senior Warden of the Vestry. His life is marked by an unwavering dedication to God and the Episcopal faith.

Fred will be remembered for his devotion to his beloved wife, Ruth, love of family, kindness, joyful spirit and love of God.

Fred was preceded in death by his sister, Jane. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, James; daughter, Suzanne Mellott; niece, Mary Ann Baxter; and grandchildren.

His memorial service and internment will be held Dec. 1, at 11 a.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, Vero Beach.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Trinity Episcopal Church in Vero Beach or Toledo, Ohio.
