Charles Joseph Bagley, Sr., 63, Vero Beach

Charles Joseph Bagley, Sr., 63, of Vero Beach, passed away Sept. 17, 2018, at his home. He was born May 15, 1955, in Americus, Ga., to the late Arthur and Mattie Bagley, Sr.

Mr. Bagley served in the United States Army. He enjoyed his 24 years of work at Grand Harbor in Vero Beach.

Survivors include his son, Shawn Michael Hurley-Bagley; daughter, Taryn Charnelle Bagley; son, Charley Joseph Bagley, Jr.; significant other, Terry Ann Evans; siblings, Olin and Dot Bagley, Arthur and Terri Bagley, Calen and Joe Moore, Edward and Flora Bagley; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Kathryn Marie DeLancy, 86, Vero Beach

Kathryn Marie DeLancy, 86, of Vero Beach, passed away Sept. 19, 2018, at VNA Hospice House. She was born to the late Samuel and Mary Castellano in Milton, N.Y.

She graduated in 1952 from Vassar Brothers School of Nursing as an RN.  She married John “Jack” B. DeLancy in 1952 and raised their family in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.

They retired to Vero Beach in 1991 where she became very active in Village Green.

Kathryn was an active member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach. She loved arts and crafts and studying her family genealogy.  She was an avid reader and quilter.

Kathryn was passionate about her family.  She leaves her memories to be cherished by her husband, Jack; children, Deborah (Howard) Felsten, of Chicago, Ill., Jeffrey (Beth) DeLancy, of Hamden, Ct., Lisa (Peter) Medgansis, of Melbourne, Fla.; David (Sue) DeLancy, of Cheshire, Ct.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Sandy.

She was predeceased by her brother, John (Pat) Castellano.

The family will receive friends 4-6 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23, at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 6 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 24, at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Vero Beach.

 

Betty Doris Davey Thomas, 87, Fellsmere

Betty Doris Davey Thomas, 87, of Fellsmere, passed away peacefully on the evening of Sept. 19, 2018, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on Sept. 23, 1930 in Dallas, Ga., to Virgil and Bessie Tibbitts.

Betty and her siblings worked on the family farm until she left at the age of 18. She met and married the love of her life William Elmer Davey on May 13, 1949, in Connelly, Ga., where he was stationed in the United States Army as a pilot.

They lived there until William got out of the army and moved to Altmar, N.Y., where William was from.

In 1958, they moved to Fellsmere where they would build a home and raise their children, until Williams’ untimely death on May 28, 1966. Together they had nine children. Betty worked at the Fellsmere Inn to make ends meet after her husband passed away.

She married her second husband, Westley Ardeen Thomas, and had one daughter. They would eventually retire to Lake Wales. They were together for 27 years before they separated.

Betty then moved back to Fellsmere, where she spent the rest of her days doing what she loved best, cooking, gardening, traveling to new places, spending time with her family and help raise her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Davey, Rodney Davey (Debby), Bill Davey (Patricia);  daughters, Roberta Doninger (Terry), Jeri Herrera (Gonzalo), Billie Jo Salinas (Francisco), Frances Davey, Sharon Thomas; 25 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Elmer Davey Sr. and Westley Ardeen Thomas; her son, Alan Dale Davey; her daughter, Mari Alyce Barber; her parents, Virgil Tibbitts and Bessie Tibbitts; and her grandson, Victor Posey.

Family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Betty’s life by gathering for a Memorial Service at Fellsmere First Baptist Church, 107 N. Magnolia Street, Fellsmere, on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m.
