North Shore estate offers resort-style luxury

Not even the smallest detail was left to chance in the lavish, designer-furnished estate at 9060 Rocky Point Drive, in the exclusive  7-home, oceanfront enclave, The Estates of North Shore: a secluded luxury hideaway  on Vero’s north barrier island.

Words and photographs will peak your interest, but you absolutely must see this 5-year-old oceanfront in person: it was custom-designed for and with the hands-on owners, who worked closely with builder and designer to ensure every aspect was exactly what they wanted, with emphasis on showcasing favorite art pieces. The result is a stunning standout  with a relaxed flair and enormous artistic creativity, possessing, in equal parts, resort-level luxury, convenience and control.

The lot’s significant but subtle elevation (21 feet above sea level) adds visual appeal,  sloping gently up from the street to the main residence, then gradually down toward the sea.

Embraced by palms and coastline vegetation, the home’s street face is grand, but not intimidating: a curving marble-paved drive and spacious courtyard, accessing the separate 2-story guest house, north-facing 3-bay main garage, and impressive main entrance – broad mahogany French doors with side lights beneath a covered, second-story balcony which mimics the main entry with glass French doors and side windows.  Carriage lights and 2-story columns add to the elegant sense of arrival.

The exterior palette is  gentle yellow with creamy wood trim and moss green storm shutters. UV-protective windows impart a subtle blue/green from the outside, but don’t affect the beautiful, crystal clear views from inside.

Upon entering, you find yourself gazing, eye-level, at the Atlantic horizon, a breathtaking vista seen through the great room’s bank of three glass French doors, which reveal lanai, pool deck, broad seagrape and seagrass-supported dune, beach and shimmering sea.

From the foyer and broad gallery leading to north and south wings, marble floors extend throughout the home, and recessed illumination supplements the natural lighting  that pours in from dawn to dusk. Everywhere, the wall colors are informed by the surrounding environment – a palette reflecting the ever-changing shades of earth, sky,  sea and tropical vegetation.

Designer Page Franzel, who furnished the entire home, says her job was “easy” as the owners were “the most creative clients I’ve ever worked with, and knew what they wanted.”

The powder room off the foyer is a fine example. The room, gorgeous in sand tones,  stars a  unique vanity cabinet with mirror front beneath intricate wood open-work design and mottled blue-gray granitetop. The sink itself is, simply, a work of art. The white ceramic interior of the metal vessel basin is adorned with  delicate silvery leaf outlines  and  the  drain wears a beautiful ceramic disc encircled with tiny silver balls and painted with a curling Japanese-style wave in white and blue-green. From this small focal point, the lady of the house drew inspiration for many of the colors used throughout the home.

Beneath a lofty, tongue-and-groove tray ceiling, the great room encompasses gathering/dining space,  and opens to the large lanai, which can be closed securely at the touch of a button. It also holds a clever secret: behind its north wall, currently a handsome, white wood feature wall designed for displaying art, is – a fireplace – a thoughtful possibility for future owners.

From the great room,  the kitchen and family room open to the lanai. The two spaces are at once separated and connected by a breakfast area: a long  table with booth seating back-to-back with one of the two kitchen islands, and  chairs on the family room side.

The kitchen was lovingly designed by the lady of the house, herself a cook, and one who loves to entertain. Inspired by this impeccably designed and outfitted chef’s dream, even those whose cooking skills extend only to PB&J’s will be tempted to explore the culinary world: The high-end appliances include Wolf gas range and Sub-Zero fridge/freezer, plus a second Sub-Zero and wine cooler in the roomy butlers’ pantry. A cleverly designed, cabinet front pass-through  between pantry and kitchen  is party-perfect and, along with the pantry door,  can easily be closed off. Obviously, this home is marvelously suited for all sorts of entertaining.

A hall behind the kitchen lead to the first-floor guest suite, with walk-in closet and tub/shower. Also located in this area are the laundry room, garage access,  and the Smart Home control system, which requires an astonishing 13 miles of wiring to handle all the electronics.

A morning bar at the north end of  the foyer gallery leads into the master suite. This spacious wing includes a handsome office,  with a pair of the most comfy,  butter-soft leather easy chairs you’ve ever seen. There’s also a full-wall, built-in  desk/storage unit.  The suite includes two walk-in closets, “hers” with dresser,  full-length mirror and (at last) enough shoe shelves to give Emelda Marcos pause.  A peaceful, relaxing retreat, the master bedroom opens onto its own lanai, and softly echoes the colors of sky, sand and sea.

The spacious all-white master bath is another breathtaking must-see.There is  a private water closet with bidet; the double quartz-top vanity  extends along two corner walls, with wall-to-wall mirrors, gorgeous, shaded  sconces and dressing table section. Next to the glass-front, corner shower,  “floating” within  a marble surround, is a big, sumptuous,  curved white Jacuzzi tub. Think candles, wine and an absorbing mystery novel.

Stairs or elevator to the second floor open into a charming loft, with covered sunset balcony, a space which can be employed to suit any owner’s imagination. This level also houses  a pair of en suite guest bedrooms with walk-in closets and French door access to a full length covered balcony and  exquisite ocean vistas.

With its own garage and gated street entrance, the roomy guest house is a private haven. From a paved walk-way, the  foyer features storage closet, washer/dryer closet, garage access and stairway to the second floor living quarters. Here are a sunny and spacious  living room, full kitchen and bedroom with closet and full bath. Both living room and bedroom open onto a porch with views of the sunrise,  main front  facade and ocean glimpses.

This exceptional estate is virtually turn-key, a truly idyllic oceanfront paradise, for a resort-at-home lifestyle.
