Two men shot several times in Gifford

GIFFORD — Two men were taken to a trauma center after both were found with several gunshot wounds each Tuesday night, sheriff’s and fire rescue officials said.

The shooting happened about 8 p.m. Tuesday in the 4700 block of 39th Avenue, near the Victory Park Apartments in Gifford, sheriff’s officials said.

Both men were taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, said Indian River County sheriff’s spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers and fire rescue spokesman Cory Richter.

One man was taken to the trauma center by helicopter and the other by ambulance, Flowers and Richter said. The conditions and ages of both men were not immediately available.

Sheriff’s detectives are en route to the scene and will be investigating for the next few hours, Flowers said. Further details on the shooting were not immediately available.
