Between the bridges, beauty enjoys cool breezes and views

“Between the bridges.” On the water.  At the end of a cul-de-sac.

Set between Vero’s north and south bridges, the easy, breezy, beautifully renovated two-story home at 2 Sailfish Road boasts one of the area’s most coveted locations along the historic Indian River Lagoon/Intracoastal Waterway.  The entire neighborhood is undergoing an exciting renewal with older homes being renovated or replaced with new, larger houses that take full advantage of the superb location. No. 2 Sailfish is an excellent example.

Whoever calls this 4-bedroom, 3.5-bath, 2,401-square-foot house in Vero Isles home will enjoy virtually no random traffic; a constant breeze off the river; deep water dockage; and easy access to shops and restaurants on the mainland and island, via foot, bike or car.

Past a trio of the property’s numerous coconut palms, a paver drive circles to the side courtyard and large, 2-bay garage. Simple, handsome lines define the exterior,  its sunlight-yellow walls and sea-blue shutters cheerful against the lush foliage and azure sky.

Along a covered walkway, through the white, 3-pane  front door,  an entry hallway/foyer leads into the bright, open  living room, kitchen and dining room, all within a spacious area offering charming views of the river though window/slider walls on the north, south and east sides. The wide sparkling waterway, with beautiful boats passing by, is visible from every spot in this welcoming space; several outside entertaining areas, along the north, south and east sides, are mere steps away.

Here, as throughout, pale ceilings and walls, crisp white millwork and ceiling fans enhance the home’s indoor/outdoor personality. Grounding the indoor living areas are warm wood plank floors.

The current owner orchestrated the meticulous, to-the-studs renovation. His design and decorating prowess is evident in the gorgeous new kitchen. It is a standout, with dove gray cabinets and recessed lighting behind the crown molding; polished deep green and black granite countertops; and stainless steel appliances, including a side-by-side fridge with water on the door and two freezer drawers, and stacked ovens.

On a separate counter, the cooktop sits beneath a glass block window with a sill that’s perfect for keeping favorite herbs and spices at hand. Above the cooktop, the stainless steel vent is a sleek T-shaped work of art. Completing the tableau, the ceiling-to-countertop backsplash dazzles with horizontal glass tiles of varying lengths and shades of gray and white.

The spacious island houses a snack bar, dishwasher, storage and deep farm sink, all illuminated by three cylindrical pendant lights.

East of the kitchen, surrounded by window-walls, is the dining area, where family and guests can enjoy fabulous river and pool views with their mealtime conversation. There is plenty of room for a long table, and, in the evening hours, a simple chandelier provides soft light.

North off the foyer, along a gallery hallway, are two of the three guest bedrooms, which share a Jack-and-Jill bathroom, with a curved glass corner shower. The larger, north bedroom features windows on three sides, and both bedrooms have access to the shaded pool deck via glass sliders in the hallway.

Turn right from the front door and a small hallway leads to the third guest suite, which features a window to the south and a glass slider to the patio and summer kitchen. The en suite bathroom has marble tile and a glass-front shower.

This bathroom can also be accessed from the foyer. All three guest bedrooms and the upstairs master bedroom have beautiful, rustic, white/gray wood plank flooring.

From this hallway, an open staircase ascends to the second level. On the landing, overlooking the stairs, is a small space brilliantly lighted by a row of windows. Here, in another example of creative design, the owner has fitted a small desk, chair and computer – a clever and convenient work station.

The master suite is a private hideaway with large walk-in closet, soft gray walls and double crown molding.

The bed sits in a shallow alcove illuminated by recessed lighting and flanked by custom built-in, floor-to-ceiling shelving, making reading in bed a tempting option – although there is a large TV on the wall opposite the bed. At the same time, the bed alcove is placed so you need do no more than lift your head from the pillow to watch the sun rise.

The indulgent master bath has white wainscoting beneath a pale blue/gray wall, and a beautifully tiled rain glass shower. There is a huge Jacuzzi tub and a sleek, high-tech toilet (read the directions).

The long dark wood double vanity sits in a bump-out in order to accommodate narrow side windows on either end, thus providing natural light for make-up application. One long, gray-framed mirror stretches end-to-end, and the basins are true art pieces – curved, rectangular bowls of dark granite, perfect against the white vanity top.

The master bedroom enjoys the most breathtaking river views in the house through picture windows to the east and glass sliders which access the balcony on the south and southeast. The balcony follows the bay from south to east and offers plenty of room for relaxing and watching the passing boats, dolphins, manatees, sea birds and of course, the glorious Florida sunrise.

Four steps up from the balcony is an unexpected little “roof lounge” – a shaded hideaway for reading, napping, snacking, pondering or simply taking in the splendid view.

You can also descend from the balcony to the south patio via a circular metal staircase. The patio extends all the way round to the north side and includes the summer kitchen with a gas (or charcoal) grill, a pergola with a large 3-sided stone-clad bar and plenty of room for dining.

A strip of emerald lawn slopes to the new Trex dock, which is fitted with ladder and lights and is wide enough for seating. On the home’s north side is the crystal blue, heated saltwater pool, surrounded by its own shaded travertine patio. Multi-tone blue mosaic tiles adorn the pool, spa, waterfall and square patio fountain columns.

Needless to say, but bears repeating: This home is hard to beat for entertaining. With all three sides – dining room/kitchen, living room – open to the deck, pergola, pool, summer kitchen and dock, the possibilities are endless.  And, should the need arise, the house can be buttoned up tight with impact doors and windows throughout.
