INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A woman and bus driver were injured after deputies said the woman’s vehicle ran a flashing red light and struck a GoLine bus, flipping the bus on its side.
The early morning crash closed 43rd Avenue at 8th Street in the immediate area for about an hour, deputies said.
The GoLine bus, which had no passengers at the time, was traveling about 6 a.m. Monday southbound on 43rd Avenue, Indian River County sheriff’s spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. The woman, who was driving a four-door Volkswagen, was headed eastbound on 8th Street.
The woman ran the flashing red light and struck the bus on its rear passenger side. “She was traveling fast enough to knock the bus over and clearly did not stop,” Flowers said.
The woman and bus driver were both taken to the Indian River Medical Center with minor injuries, Indian River County Fire Rescue spokesman Cory Richter said. The woman had an injured ankle. The gender of the bus driver was not available.
Details on how fast both vehicles were traveling were not immediately available.
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the crash.
