It’s been nearly 10 months since Hurricane Irma, and while the blue tarps and piles of debris are gone, at least one local business is still in recovery mode.
There’s still more work to be done, but repairs are proceeding on the SunTrust Bank branch at 500 N. Miramar Ave., with a September re-opening date planned.
A small tornado during Irma damaged the branch and blew over a large utility pole nearby.
Bank officials worked with the town of Indialantic to request slight changes before commencing repairs, including minor changes to make the building more compliant with American with Disabilities Act requirements, which required the approval of the Planning and zoning board, said Indialantic Town manager Chris Chinault.
After the roof was replaced, workers discovered additional issues involving rust on the steel reinforcement in the flooring, further delaying completion, Chinault said.
Like many residents and bank customers, city officials look forward to the completion of repairs at the branch, even though there is another SunTrust Bank branch nearby on Eau Gallie Boulevard.
“We would have been glad to have a new building there, but once you do the roof, you’re committed to finishing the repairs,’’ Chinault said.
Once up and running, the new branch manager will be Amanda Camocho, bank officials said.
