Harbor Branch Foundation establishes Marilyn C. Link Memorial Internship

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — In honor of the late Marilyn C. Link, whose service to the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute Foundation and the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at FAU will be deeply missed, the Board of the Foundation has established the Marilyn C. Link Memorial Internship.

Beginning in fiscal year 2020, the Foundation will annually fund one intern competitively selected with a focus on ocean engineering/technology to participate in HBOI Summer Internship Program.

“Marilyn Link’s career, experience, and care inspired generations of students at FAU and other education organizations,” stated Foundation President & CEO Katha Kissman. “The Foundation Board is pleased to honor Marilyn and her many contributions to both the Foundation and the Institute in this way.

2018 will mark the 45th year hosting outstanding ocean science and engineering students from around the nation, which began when Marilyn was Harbor Branch’s first Managing Director. There are currently 617 “alumni” of this program who have gone forward into distinguished careers in the sciences.

To participate in the 10-week Summer Internship Program at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI) at FAU, the Marilyn Link Intern will be selected through the regular process overseen by HBOI with a focus on ocean engineering/technology, a special interest of Ms. Link. The 2018 Summer Intern Program begins end of May and continues through early August, culminating in public presentations on the work the interns have done with their HBOI mentors at the Annual Harbor Branch Summer Intern Symposium.

Other organizations that fund students through the HBOI Summer Intern Program include the Link Foundation, the Gertrude E. Skelly Charitable Foundation, the Fort Pierce Yacht Club, and Bill and Carol Barrows (the James Pomponi Memorial Internship).

This grant will continue for as long as the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute Foundation and the Summer Internship Program at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI) at Florida Atlantic University respectively are in existence.
