Join one of the fastest growing occupations in health care with an online degree in Health Information Technology (HIT) from Indian River State College. Classes start this fall, and IRSC is now accepting applications for the program.
Offered through the IRSC Virtual Campus, the HIT program is 100 percent online and provides flexibility along with an independent learning environment. Through lectures, virtual labs, and internship opportunities, students master medical-legal aspects of patient care, quality improvement and healthcare data analysis, ICD-10 coding, and supervision of health information employees.
The Health Information Technology career field combines medicine and cutting-edge computer technology, and the average starting pay in HIT careers is $16 an hour with the potential to make up to $30 an hour.
Fall HIT classes begin Monday, Aug. 20. Students entering the program must be 18 years old, and have a high school diploma or GED.
Prerequisites courses in Medical Terminology and Survey of the Human Body or Anatomy and Physiology I and II with Labs are also required, and applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Summer semester classes can help HIT program applicants get a head start with any needed prerequisite courses. Summer A classes begin Wednesday, May 9.
