Intoxicated driver to deputies: ‘I’m outta here’

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 58-year-old man deputies said tested twice over the legal limit was arrested after slamming into a car and telling a deputy, “I’m outta here,” authorities said.

Deputies charged Timothy Patrick Newman, of the 6100 block of 57th Court, with driving under the influence, failure to have motor vehicle liability insurance, failure to register motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. He is being held at the Indian River County Jail on $5,500 bond.

A deputy responded to a reckless driver about 6 p.m. Monday at Walgreens at the 58th Avenue and State Road 60 intersection. The deputy was informed a red Dodge Durango struck another vehicle in the parking lot.

The deputy approached the vehicle and saw a man, later identified as Newman, in the driver’s seat. Newman looked at the deputy through the side-view mirror as he or she walked to the vehicle. Newman told the deputy ‘I’m outta here,’ and then drove between two cars before turning onto 58th Avenue, an arrest report shows.

The deputy got back in his patrol vehicle, followed the Durango and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy spoke with Newman and smelled an alcoholic odor coming from the man, authorities said.

Newman was arrested and taken to the county jail. He has a court arraignment May 8, court records show.
